Believe in a Better Colorado
Colorado’s investments in all essential public services are below national averages – services such as K-12 and higher education, transportation and health care. Below average is not good enough.
Believe in a Better Colorado is an unprecedented effort among the state’s three largest K-12 education associations to inform public school employees and citizens about the need to more effectively invest in all essential public services.
Savings Account for Education (SAFE) – a proposed ballot initiative for the November 2008 general election – is the first major step toward a solution.
Right now, Colorado is the only state constitutionally required to cut taxes while increasing spending.
SAFE removes revenue limits and spending requirements from the constitution, and starts a permanent savings account for K-12 education. It protects schools from cuts without squeezing out funding for other essential public services such as higher education, health care and transportation.
SAFE moves us closer to the goal of Believe in a Better Colorado: To adopt a new tax system by 2011. Click here for information about placing SAFE on the ballot.
